Microbiome profiling refers to identification of the microbial communities, in vivo or in vitro. By application of the technologies such as Illumina sequencing, genome sequencing, transcriptomics and metagenomics, both profiling as well as functional aspects of the microbial communities can be assessed.
This type of techniques has allowed for better understanding and insight of the dynamics of the microbial communities, leading to unraveling the response of these communities to environmental changes, and their role in health and disease.
